Winners Never Quit, And Quitters Never Win

Biography

"Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality." --Warren G. Bennis

For me, it all started once I retired after 6 years of professional hockey. I returned to my home state with the passion to teach and inspire young goaltenders that had goals and dreams to play at highest levels of play possible. To be honest, I was not impressed. The lack of leadership, passion and quality of coaching I had witnessed had my head spinning for quite some time. Along with that, I also noticed the extreme mass volume of goalies on the ice at any given time. After gaining some experience in the coaching field, I knew it was time to start providing better quality experiences and training for our young athletes striving for excellence. I have been blessed to not only experience the highest level of play possible, but to learn and grow with coaches/mentors whom I believe are the best in the business.

My first great experience was with Warren Strelow who was the San Jose Sharks goalie coach for many years. Strelow gave me opportunities to learn from him and his goalies as he let me be a viewer in his San Jose Sharks goalie training program in White Bear Lake Minnesota for many summers. Cam Mcdonald was my first real coach and mentor while I was playing in Dallas Texas. He taught me how to become a student of the game. Cam is currently the Hungarian National goalie coach and spent several years coaching minor pro in America. Ian Clarke who spent over 10 years in the NHL coaching Roberto Luongo, Sergei Bobrovski, and many more. Ian Clarke was also Sergei Bobrovski’s goalie coach when he won the Vezina award. I also spent an entire summer working with and for Brian Daccord. Brian has had the pleasure of working with dozens of NHL players in the summer. And of course Steve Valiquette who played several years in the NHL and made a tremendous impact on my game especially through my college and professional days. To this day he is still someone I look up to.

I believe success leaves a trail to be followed. These coaches and mentors have provided me with invaluable knowledge of the game, and had an exceptional impact on me as a player, person and now as a coach. Here at Hartzell Hockey I want to give the knowledge and experiences I was blessed with, to goaltenders looking to pave their own path. We take pride in providing a high quality experience for all our athletes so they get the best out of every second on the ice. We strive for nothing short of greatness.
